Arlene was born October 20, 1935, in Appomattox, Virginia. The daughter of the late Howlett Fuller Drinkard, Sr., and Virginia Elizabeth Drinkard, she attended Appomattox schools and later obtained her high school diploma through correspondence courses. She met her husband, Mike Poss, through a friend, while he was stationed in Virginia. They were married on August 24, 1956, at First United Methodist Church in McGregor, where they were lifelong members of the Sunshine Class. Arlene and Mike made McGregor their home where they raised their two boys.
Arlene enjoyed life with her family and friends. A wonderful cook, she always prepared delicious meals, and it was nearly impossible to leave her house hungry. She kept an immaculate home, humming and singing her favorite songs as she cleaned. She loved decorating for the holidays, entertaining, and playing cards or board games. It was a pure joy for her to play games for hours with the people she loved. Along with Mike, she was a car-racing fan, attending races or watching them on TV at every opportunity.
