It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Billie Jean Haynes, born on April 5, 1937, in Crawford, Texas. She was the beloved daughter of Annie Mae Robinson and her stepfather, Robert Hicks.
Billie Jean was united in marriage to Lendburgh Haynes of McGregor, Texas, on March 5, 1955. Together, they created a loving family, welcoming five children into the world: Deborah Haynes Kelley, Linda Haynes Brown, Joe Lynn Haynes, Sammie Edward Haynes, and David Wade Haynes.
A faithful and dedicated member of the Church of the Living God, Billie Jean served as the church secretary and was relentless in her efforts to serve God. Her faith and commitment to her church community were evident in all that she did. She was proud to be a part of the ministry led by her son, Pastor Sammie E. Haynes Sr.
In addition to her service to the church, Billie Jean worked at Smeads Manufacturing in McGregor, Texas, for 20 years until her retirement. Her dedication to her work and family was a testament to her strong character.
On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, she was called from labor to reward for eternal life by our Lord and Savior. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lendburgh Haynes; her daughter, Deborah Sue Kelley; her son-in-law, Wayne Kelley; her son, Joe Lynn Haynes; her granddaughter, Rosiland Allen; her granddaughter, Bianca Slater; and her mother, Annie Mae Hicks.
She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Linda Brown (husband Ezell) of Grand Prairie; her son, Sammie Haynes Sr. (wife Ciera) of Temple, Texas; her son, David Wade Haynes Sr. (wife Jackie) of Wylie, Texas; as well as 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, and a host of family and friends.
Billie Jean is remembered for her unwavering spirit, kindness, and dedication to her family and community. Her grandsons, Sammie Haynes Jr., David Haynes Jr., Zachary Haynes, Devon Pettis, David Haynes III, and Kobe Lee Haynes, will serve as pallbearers, honoring her legacy of love and strength.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, October 5, at 9:00 am at New Zion Baptist Church, 206 Arthur Street, McGregor, Texas. A celebration of Billie Jean’s life will follow at 10:00 am. Interment will be at Waco Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Church of the Living God in McGregor, Texas.
