James Edward Cox was born March 5, 1936, in Graham, Young County, Texas, to Carlton Edward and Myrtle Sensibaugh Cox. James gained his wings on September 6, 2024.
He lived in Graham until he was three months old, and then the family moved to Bellevue, Texas, where his father had taken over the publication of The Bellevue News upon the death of his twin brother.
He served in the United States Army from September 19, 1955, until September 20, 1957, as a Fire Control Crewman on the radar guidance system for a battery of four 90 mm anti-aircraft guns and was honorably discharged from the US Army on August 31, 1961. As a teenager, he ran projection machines for theatres in Henrietta, Graham, Ryan, Oklahoma, and later in life, in McGregor, Texas. He was a graduate of the United States Armed Forces Institute.
He married Jo Ann Johnson Evans on May 10, 1963, in Temple, Bell County, Texas. He worked at The McGregor Mirror in McGregor, Texas, from 1961 until retiring in December of 2003. He was a Baptist.
James was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, JoAnn; his parents, Ed and Myrtle Sensibaugh Cox of Henrietta, Texas; father-in-law and mother-in-law, James Virgil Johnson and Edith E. Orr Johnson; son-in-law, Ralph Fales; grandparents, great-grandparents, and great-great-grandparents, John Monroe and Blanch Elizabeth Lemons Cox, John and Catharine Rohan Cox, Thomas and Mary Ann Rhea Lemons, John Calvin and Mary Penina Drake Sensibaugh, James Charles and Sidney Reden Ray Drake, and John and Mary Ray.
Survivors include one daughter, Gwen Cox; grandchildren, Amy Lawrence Morgan and her husband, Billy; four great-grandchildren, Hailey Marie Morgan and her partner, Zach Bourgue, Joshua Ryan Morgan, Aiden James Morgan; nieces, Medra Stewart and her husband, Buddy, Becky Hobday, and Michi Ingram and her husband, Donny; nephew, John Marshall; and sister-in-law, Mary Helen Overton and her husband, Fred.
