Billy Eugene Johnson, 78, of Henrietta, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2021.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in Henrietta, Texas, with Rev. Aaron Logan officiating and Dr. Keva Green and Rev. Danny Allen, assisting. Burial was in Hope Cemetery in Henrietta under the direction of Davis Funeral Home.

Billy was born on September 23, 1943, to T.C. (Bill) and Cecilia (Steckler) Johnson. He had a wonderfully happy childhood surrounded by loving family and friends in Henrietta.

He graduated from Henrietta High School in 1962 where he participated in all sports. He attended North Texas State University, graduating in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in education. He then began a long teaching and coaching career that spanned 30-plus years. Coach Johnson taught history and coached football, baseball, track and basketball in Bridgeport, Hubbard, McGregor, Iowa Park, Quanah and Henrietta. He loved kids of all ages, and he took great delight in the success of his former students.

Billy married Connie Ruth (Koch) in Bridgeport, Texas, on June 22, 1968. Billy and Connie were both educators for many years and they influenced countless young lives. Billy was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Henrietta and attended the Fellowship Sunday School Class where Connie is the teacher. He served as treasurer and head usher at FUMC. He loved his hometown and he served on the Henrietta ISD School Board, Henrietta Housing Authority, the Clay County Memorial Hospital Endowment Board, and Hope Cemetery Association. Billy and Connie delighted in attending all sporting and extracurricular activities at Henrietta High School.

After retiring from Henrietta High School in 1999, Billy then worked part-time at Davis Funeral Home for 20 years. He was a very social person and delighted in visiting with families while working there. He loved watching his grandchildren in all of their activities and he made many trips to Amarillo and Frisco to cheer them on.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Roland and Mary Koch, and infant twin grandsons, Adam and Luke White.

Billy is survived by his wife of 53 years, Connie Johnson; daughters, Jennifer White and husband, Gregg, and Jill Gonzales and husband, Junior; sister, Carol Smith; grandchildren, Marshall White, Audrey White, Claire Gonzales, Allison Gonzales and Brooke Gonzales; sisters-in-law, Sue Brodsky and husband, Richard, and Penne Allen and husband, Danny; nieces and nephews: Stan Slimp, Brian Slimp, Craig Brodsky, Wendy Borelli, Ashley Parker, Guy Smith, Emily Warren, Eric Allen and several grand nieces and nephews; as well as a host of dear friends and former students.
Visitation was on Monday evening from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Henrietta.
