Benny Wayne Waters

Benny Wayne Waters, 82, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Matagorda Regional Medical Center from natural causes.

He was the loving husband of Patricia Waters. They shared 31 years of marriage together. Born in Waco, Texas, he was the son of Jack and Trudie Waters. He grew up in McGregor, Texas and graduated from McGregor High School. Benny attained his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Texas, Arlington and his Master of Arts degree at the University of Memphis. Benny had two fulfilling careers - first as a teacher in McNairy County, Tennessee, and McLennan County, Texas, and then as a social worker for the Texas Department of Human Services.

He was a member of the Lions Club in China Spring, Texas, and enjoyed friends, laughter, crossword puzzles, reading, and, probably most of all, fishing. He will be remembered for his wit, his humor, and his big personality.

Benny is survived by his wife, Patricia; brother, Billy Jack Waters; sons, Jack Waters (Christi) and Marc Waters (Bodie); stepdaughter, Kim Pierce; grandchildren, Courtney Taylor, Zach Gates and Lacy Pierce, and great-grandchildren: Savanna Smith and Hudson Smith.

He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Joyce Gruber; and his stepson, Scott Pierce.

The family will gather for a private ceremony to spread Benny’s ashes at his favorite beach.
