Hill among big winners at 2022 McGregor Local Livestock Show

March 03, 2022

Sarah Spohn and Sidney Kasting got their due recently at the 2022 McGregor Local Livestock Show - even though they were overshadowed a bit by a steer, a hog, countless chickens and a few sheep.

They wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Spohn and Kasting were honored as founding members of the McGregor Vo-Ag Booster Club on Feb. 19 at the 2022 McGregor Local Livestock Show, which they also helped start. Both were presented plaques and recognized for their efforts at the start of the sale.

“We appreciate everyone that participated and supported our local show with sponsorships, donations, buying products, silent auction items and concessions,” said Melissa Houchin.

While Spohn and Kasting were collecting plaques, Carsyn Hill and Ryker Young were penciling their names into the show’s history books by garnering grand champion titles. Hill won the Market Steer division, while Young took top honors in the Market Swine classification.

Young’s hog edged out 27 other entries in four classes to win the Market Swine division.

Carli Evans, whose entry won the Class 4 honors, had her entry selected as the Reserve Champion.

Gracelynn Singer and J.L. Singer also pocketed awards in the Swine competition. Gracelynn was tabbed the recipient of the Junior Showmanship honors. J.L. won the Senior Showmanship title.

Laci Heiner and Kinleigh Hering also walked away from the event as big winners. Heiner won the Grand Champion and Showmanship honors in the Market Lambs division.Hering won the Market Goat crown.

Reserve Champion honors in the Market Lamb division went to Layla Goff. Second in the Market Goats went to Jolie Rebando, who also was selected as the Showmanship winner.

Calob Walker won the Heifer division. His entry edged out Kendal Miller and Mabry Miller for the top spot, as well as earning him the Showmanship award.

Other grand champion winners in the show included Jacob Singer (Broilers), J.L. Singer (Turkeys), Alyssa Bottoms (Meat Rabbits) and Kyndall Houchin (Baked Goods).

Dustin Coufal served as the animal judge for the show. Terri Reeves and Angela Glenn did the judging of the baked goods.
