Ronald Charles “Ronnie” Kelley, 60, of McGregor, Texas, home of the mighty Bulldogs, passed away on Monday, May 25, following a late diagnosis of stomach cancer. Ronnie lived with the same courage and grit he brought to every field and court he touched.
Ronnie was the kind of athlete people only meet once in a lifetime; gifted in every sport, humble in victory, generous in spirit, and respected by all who knew him. An all-around sportsman at McGregor High School, he was known for outstanding talent in basketball, track, and record-breaking football. After graduation, he continued his football career at the University of Tulsa, where his drive and ability made him a top prospect for the Dallas Cowboys. Yet, as remarkable as his accomplishments were, it was his heart, his passion, sportsmanship, and leadership that left the deepest mark.
He touched countless lives with his dedication and his unforgettable presence. Teammates, coaches, classmates, friends, and neighbors remember Ronnie not only for the way he played, but for the way he lifted others up. A steady hand, a kind word, a relentless competitor who never forgot to be gracious. His legacy will live on in the stories shared on the sidelines and in the stands, in the records he set, and in his character, which will forever live on through his children and grandchildren.
Ronnie is survived by his mother, Ella D. Kelley; his children, Kavetta Jones Williams (daughter), Chastity Carroll (daughter), Darius Kelley (son), and Bryana Kelley (daughter); and by four beloved grandchildren. He will be forever loved and profoundly missed by his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Cole Funeral Home, 1113 W 5th St, McGregor, Texas. Guests feel free to celebrate Ronnie by wearing Dallas Cowboys attire to the services. Flowers may be sent to Cole Funeral Home. Donations in Ronnie’s memory may be made to Ella D. Kelley.
Ronnie’s passion, heart, and competitive spirit will never be forgotten. In every game played and every goal chased, his example endures.
