Oglesby set to put snakes on display

It’s rattlesnake round-up time! And around these parts, that’s big news.

The 52nd Annual Oglesby Rattlesnake Round-up will make Oglesby the center of attention this weekend. The annual event is scheduled for Feb. 26-27.

For decades, thousands of visitors from near and far have flocked to Oglesby to take part in the celebration.

The event will get underway with a breakfast, starting at 7 a.m. Festivities will kick off at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday and continue through to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults. Children aged 6 and under will be admitted free of charge. A festive carnival of rides and featured shows, including live music, and a variety of food vendors will be available.

Overall, more than 60 vendors and specialty booths have reserved spaces. Live entertainment will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

The Oglesby Volunteer Fire Department will be on hand to serve refreshments. Oglesby ISD will also have a concession stand open. Proceeds benefit the Oglesby Lions Club local programs.

Rattlesnake shows will begin on Saturday at 10 a.m., noon, as well as at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday, shows will be held at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Jackie Bibby and a team of handlers will be on site giving live demonstrations with the venomous snakes and educating the audience of the dangers of a snake encounter.
