Mary Williams
Mary Williams, 84, a passionate traveler with a love for railroad history and the mountains, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025.
Born in Waco to Edwin and Lilly Kirk, she graduated from McGregor High School in 1959 and Texas Wesleyan University in 1963 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. After working in Dallas, Texas, and Buffalo, New York, she worked as a clerk at the Bexar County Courthouse in San Antonio, Texas. While in San Antonio, she met Major Troy Williams of Gasburg, Virginia, and they were wed on February 2, 1974. They were married for 45 years until Troy’s passing in 2019. Mary is survived by her son, Andrew Williams.
Mary had a lifelong fascination with trains and western US history, and volunteered countless hours at the Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum, assisting with fundraising events, collecting historical items, and curating museum displays. Both Mary and Troy loved to travel and embarked on numerous adventures throughout the Americas, Europe, Australia, and beyond. To unwind, they would invite friends and family to their summer cabin, playing card games and enjoying the fresh Colorado mountain air.
Visitation will be held at 9:00 am on June 9th, 2025, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple, Texas, followed by a memorial service at 10:00 am. A private graveside ceremony will be held at McGregor Cemetery at 11:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Tanglewood HOA Treasurer, 7200 Paddlebrook Court, Edmond, OK 73034, or the Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum, 315 West Avenue B, Temple, Texas 76501.
